So, what's the big deal about the 77's ?
What do you get when you mix:
1. Intelligent, Ironic, Philosophical lyrics dealing with existential angst
2. Emotional, down to earth lyrics about love, heart break and real relationships
3. Fun songs that are just plain silly
3. Guitar playing that is incredibly versatile and melodic hiding in every song.  A band where every instrument is a delight
4. A band that covers everything from British Rock to 80's Synth Punk to timeless acoustic guitar blues without blinking an eye
5. Songs that are brutally honest yet redemptive - haunting yet still wide-eyed with wonder at the creation and it's Creator

You get the 77's.   You also probably get the feeling this is a highly biased review.  It is.   I still remember the day.   As a young Christian who had led rock bands before my conversion, I wondered why there couldn't be Christian music that was raw, experimental, the kind I loved.   I was beginning to feel this was just the cost of following Jesus and contemplated putting my guitar away for good.  A friend who worked at a Christian bookstore was about to throw out a stack of promo 45's (if you don't know what a 45 is, contact me).   He said "I know you like crazy music, maybe you would like this, otherwise it goes in the trash."   I went home and played the record.  Out came the song "A different kind of light."   As I sat there listening to that song in my cramped little apartment, a whole new world opened to me.  There was a way to do amazing Christian music that was not neat,  packaged, or homogenized.  Life was good and thinking was a good idea.  It was all OK.  For the next 28 years the songs of the 77's would guide me, inspire me, encourage me, help me fall back in love with Jesus.   Am I stoked for March 14th ? Uh....
